Lets Talk about Resilience

Where do I begin? I woke up on Wednesday morning feeling heavy and worried about the state of our nation. Never in a million years did I see a real estate mogul / reality tv star as our Presidential elect.
This gives me a better perspective of the mindset of the majority of Americans.  Disheartening to say the least; that the mentality of most is to vote for someone that portrays racism. It's what I like to call an undercover racism or denial of racism which usually shows up in conversations with rude stereo typed comments which is really obvious to the receiver. You know.. cognitive dissonance?  Maybe covert racism is are better term.

I watched the news and listened to his supporters actually rationalizing his ignorance and blatant racist remarks. Not only against people of color but woman.  Supporters who look past his rudeness and explain it away or  agree with his thoughts and policy ideas and bigotry. It is very disturbing.

Wednesday was really quiet in my office. The atmosphere was awkward.  Colleagues expressed their disappointment and disbelief.  Their concerns of the next 4 years.  How will this all play out?
He is not presidential at all! he is not what we are use to. I'd rather someone who is politically correct, more tact, smart, most of all experienced, and preferably not a bigot.

Clearly I was rooting for the other team.  I was looking forward to the first woman as the Commander and Chief of our nation.  My prediction early on was as such.  There is no way someone with no political or law experience could possibly be our next leader.   I believed in the American people. Trusted that the majority of this nation thought like me.  Along with my vote and millions of other minority and majority voters I just knew we had this in the bag. It was a no brainier to me.  Yes I know Clinton was not a favorite but I felt she was the lesser of two evils and everyone would understand this and vote for Hillary.

She did receive the popular vote. however the electoral votes (electoral colleges) is what put him over the top. That is another issue that I don't want to even address.  I do believe this system is not fair.

This woman has been through a lot of political banter and family drama in the public eye.  She has visited and negotiated with world leaders. Conducted herself with class and dignity.  As a woman I know her emotions were sometimes suppressed to appear strong... stronger than what she is. She is resilient.  I appreciate and respect her resilience.

January 19th is Obama's last day at the White House and lord knows, he will be missed Bigly.
(see what I did there?) I wish he could serve a third term.  Hate to see him and FLOTUS, Michelle Obama go. Please don't go!
He has faced a lot of judgments and dealt with stress.  President Obama is resilient.

As an African American, racism is not new to me.   I have experienced it blatantly and subliminally.  Each dynamic is always obvious to me.   Donald Trumps behavior, especially his supporters behavior is not new.  The only difference now is.....Trump is now the voice and aura of racism. His supporters are now feeling free to express their fears and anger.  Trump gives them a voice.

Although our current atmosphere is quit weird and disappointing,  We can easily feel hopeless and disparity.
Women and people of color, we should never give up on hope. There is no better time than now to become united and "resilience" is our middle our middle name.  We got this!
