Hey everyone,
Some lessons in life are really hard to learn.. but one lesson I have conquered is how and when to take advice....
knowing when some advice is passing judgment...because the giver wants the taker's actions to imitate their own.
No can do.... whats good for you is not necessarily good for me
A friends advice is always welcomed. My Mom's advice is welcomed too! You know the typical basic advice given when asked for.....
However when advice starts turning into judging me... then I have an issue.
Good advice example: Hey, Jackie, the best way to peel a grape is to boil them first.
Bad advice example: Hey Jackie, what the hell are you doing!?... that is crazy... If I were you I would have done things differently... or Jackie, I don't understand why you're feeling the way you are... Just get over it!!!
Okay ~ that is boarder line judging! because no one really know how the other person is really feeling unless they have walked in the other persons shoes. Point Blank Period!
It's easy to say what they would've done in any given situation... However once they experience it first hand..and the shoes are on their feet ~ their opinions change immediately. Why? because now their heart and emotions are personally challenged. now they have to face hard decisions, and be tested emotionally. Since they are being challenged... it's not so easy anymore to pass judgment on others.
With all this being said my good people ~I do appreciate good advice but I always do what is best for ME and not what others think is better for me.

Excellent message Jackie. There's an art to giving advice. Some have it, some don't.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I totally relate to what you are saying. I cant stand when people pass judgement or speak on things they know nothing about and swear they would do things differently. Sometimes I want to slap people that make those statements when they have never been in whatever situation you might be facing. By the way, I love the shoe photos. Cute shoes and it fits this post perfectly.

I agree with you 100%.
ReplyDeleteLife is an amazing journey. We all must navigate at our own speed. We may hit bumps from time to time.
What's important is proceeding with caution.
It is always wonderful to listen to advice. Some else's
experiences , the way in which someone managed a particular situation. We can listen. Does not hurt to listen. Will we apply their advice to our problem ?
We may not. At the end of the day we have to take our own path in this journey called life. We have to walk In our own shoes. I have always felt that way. I like everyone else don't mind giving advice. We give advice with love. We give advice based on our own experiences. We must realize in doing so that everyone has to do in their life what is best for them.
We must must must respect that, but continue to be there. Sometimes a sounding board is all one truly needs to clarify things. Kudos to those who are there to simply listen. Kudos to those who ate there to help us reflect and come to our own well thought out solutions.
